Eternal Bliss
laque sur textile, 2006.

Eternal Bliss was painted after a sacred hindu ceremony called the Hanuman Poojay. This is a ceremony that I attend every year at my Uncle's residence. During this prayer, my Uncle will go into trance and would conduct a particular form of dance and also bless the devotees.

There are a number of rituals that have to be conducted before he could attain a form of trance like state. For me, I have to conduct proceedings and we have to fast for almost a month prior to the poojay.

It is usually held during the month of Purtassi and there are songs that are sung, the blowing of the conch. At this moment, there is a complete surrender to the divine and there are no distractions but a very powerful and disciplined approached towards maintaining the spiritual energy.

For me this experience has been totally pacted in and I feel almost revitalised. This energy that pours out is what I almost attempt to live with and I am trying to sensitize all that we need to feel this energy and to live it everyday.

The black linear shapes are a burglar bars, but I see it as the treshold between the two worlds, the spiritual and the material.
